In 1990, CP Rail purchased 25 special order SD40-2s and designated them SD40-2Fs. They were inititally used as lead units coal on service between Crows Nest and Robert's Bank. Comfort and safety were their goal but they plagued with crank shaft problems. Reporting numbers 9000-9024.
