Patagonian Express |
The smallest of three guages of railroad in Argentina, the PE was opened in 1946 and linked Jacobacci to Esquel in Chubut. This 29.5" narrow guage railroad is 402 km long and passed through treeless, arid scrub brush across Patagonia, a land that makes West Texas look inviting! Express is a misnomer as our doubleheaded train barely made it out of the yard in Jacobacci and required hand shovelled dirt for traction on most hills! A great steam railroading experience.
